i'll have that with a side of diner

Working at a diner is everything I'd ever dreamed it would be. It's probably exactly as you'd picture it, if you were to ever sit down one day to imagine such a thing.

A lot of my free time during high school and these past summers was spent lounging around various nearby diners at off hours. So tonight, being on the working side of that equation was strangely comfortable, more so than when I've worked there at any other time. There's a lot more opportunities to have conversations with interesting night owls (that classification in itself usually implies at least one characteristic of interest) and even the other staff on duty.

The diner staff where I work is such an interesting melange of people, most so friendly, open and lively. Working here has totally awakened my enthusiasm for conversing with all sorts of people, not just with the usual set of characters my life hands me, through circumstance and/or convenience.

God, I love those times when the world feels so fucking big, in that best possible way where you just wish you had arms long enough to embrace it in its entirety. I just wanna soak up the variety of everything.

It brings me so much more comfort, that variety of life, than i could ever express and I'm so thankful for it when it comes as unexpectedly and at such a perfect, needed time, as it did for me this summer.

So here's a thanks to the individuals of the world: Keep on contributing yourself to the rest of us, we need your living imput badly.
